Healthy Halloween treats sounds like a paradox. That was exactly the question my mom presented me with today. How to give trick or treat kids something healthy instead of candy? It is possible.
How can you compete with all the chocolate and sugar packed candy out there? Well I won’t fool you and tell you it is easy. To make a healthy treat more attractive you are going to require a bit more work then just going to the store and buying a bag of bite size chocolates.
Here is a few ideas you can make.
Make popcorn (the old fashion way, no microwave), season it with nutritional yeast and put it in cute little bags to hand out to kids. I myself crave salty stuff more than sweet stuff and would enjoy a treat like that.
You can also make healthy oatmeal cookies that are sugar-free (using honey, maple syrup or coconut nectar for example.) wrap them and hand them out.
Or if you want to go all out make some healthy chocolate truffles with real cacao which is healthy and full of anti-oxidants and use the sweeteners mentioned above or stevia extract.
The easiest thing I saw was this cutie’s oranges that you can just draw spooky things on.
Where there is a will there is a way. Most importantly – Enjoy yourself!
